Cape Verde air carrier TACV to acquire two new aircraft

Praia, Cape Verde, 24 June – Cape Verdean state airline, TACV is to buy two aircraft to increase its fleet and has launched a new class, between economy and executive, for improved passenger comfort, a company director said in Praia Wednesday.

According to Georgina Melo, a TACV sales director, TACV already has two proposals from aircraft manufacturers, which are being analysed by and “ad hoc” team.

TACV currently has two medium and long haul aircraft and the company needs to increase that number for the Summer high season as it has been leasing aircraft from third parties in order to meet demand in that period.

Melo told Cape Verdean news agency Inforpress that the airline Tuesday had launched a third weekly flight to Boston, in the United States to meet market demand.

TACV currently carries around 600,000 passengers per year, but the Cape Verdean flagship company has set a target of 1 million passengers by 2012.

TACV flies to Portugal (Lisbon), Spain (Las Palmas), France (Paris and Marseilles), Italy (Bergamo, Venice and Rome), the Netehrlands (Amsterdam), Germany (Munich), Senegal (Dakar), Gambia (Banjul), Guinea Bissau (Bissau), Guinea Conakry (Conakry), the Ivory Coast (Abidjan), Brazil (Fortaleza) and the United States (Boston).

The Cape Verdean airline, which in 2009 celebrated its 50th anniversary, also provides inter-island connections, which provide links between Santiago, Fogo, Maio, Boavista, SalSão Nicolau and São Vicente islands
