50 Years have passed since "The Flight Towards Struggle"

Amilcar Cabral Foundation points on Wednesday, 29, half a century of flight from Portugal to a group of African students to join the struggle for liberation of their countries. The celebration will take place in the auditorium of the University Jean Piaget, Beach, in the presence of some of the participants in this historic event.

It was the year of 1961 when a group of students from the then Portuguese African colonies - Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and Sao Tome and Principe - have fled Portugal with the aim of integrating the efforts of struggle for independence of their countries.

In addition to marking the 50th anniversary of this date, this initiative aims to bring back the event itself, analyzing the causes and consequences. The organization aims at the same time, contribute "to update the historical record and the preservation of memory for important facts of the struggle for Independence," reads the statement from the FAC.

During the ceremony, speeches Corsino Fortes, president of the Foundation Amilcar Cabral, a representative of the young Cape Verdean Prime Minister José Maria Neves, and Commander Pedro Pires, the current President of the Republic and a participant in the Escape.
