Luxembourg and Cape Verde have signed cooperation program with the archipelago for 2011/2014
Praia, Cape Verde, 20 July - Minister for Cooperation and Humanitarian Action of Luxembourg, Marie-Josée Jacobs, signed today in Praia Indicative Cooperation Program (ICP) for the period 2011-2014 involving a financial package of about 60 million euros, media reported Cape Verdean.
The new agreement for the PIC, which represents an increase of 15 million euros in the previous financial cooperation package of 45 million, was agreed in April last year during the meeting between the Prime Minister of Cape Verde, José Maria Neves, and his Luxembourg counterpart, Jean Claude Juncker, Luxembourg.
This third PIC will consider, in addition to the partnership at the level of vocational training, higher education and research projects in the field of water supply and sanitation, and food aid to the archipelago.
Environmental protection is another aspect to be included in the new PIC, paving the way for Cape Verde to import sand from Morocco and Mauritania to supply the internal market for construction and retrieve the main beaches on the island of Santiago, very affected by rampant mining that inert.
The highlight of the visit of two days of Marie-Josée Jacobs will be conducting the meeting of the Commission XII Partnership Luxembourg-Cape Verde, which will address topics of current national, regional and international levels and will make an overall assessment of bilateral cooperation, well as the prospects of implementing the PIC III.
During his stay in Cape Verde, Marie-Josée Jacobs will also sign some legal instruments, including the Bilateral Agreement on the implementation of targeted budget support to the sector of vocational training for the 2011-2015 and an Air Services Agreement.
