Cape Verde part of humanitarian mission in Ivory Coast
The director of the National Civil Protection Service, Lieutenant Colonel Alberto Fernandes, is a part of the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination team that is in the Ivory Coast for a population assistance mission.
The objective of the mission, which lasts three weeks, is to assist the resident UN coordinator and its humanitarian staff already on the ground, as well as the NGOs who will assess the humanitarian response needs of the populations affected by the crisis.
From Bouaké in central Ivory Coast, the UNDAC team, made up of eight members representing the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs from Cape Verde, Sweden and the United Kingdom will work in other regions, especially in the west of the country, which is currently hosting some 800,000 refugees.
