Netherlands will partially finance the cruise ship terminal in Cape Verde
The Netherlands will fund 35% of the construction of a cruise terminal at the port of Mindelo, Sao Vicente Island, the Company reported fourth National Ports Administration (Enapor) of Cape Verde.
The grant was awarded under the program of the Dutch government ORIO (Facility for Infrastructure Development), which partially finances development projects in selected countries.
The project to build the cruise terminal, considered strategic for the country to increase its presence in that segment of the tourism market is estimated at about 30 million, and the Dutch part will provide 10 million euros.
Franklin Spencer, president of Enapor said the remaining 65% of funding should be achieved through public-private partnerships.
The cruise terminal has a quay 250 meters long and 11 deep and train stations will be built on land uses and multi-car parks and for its size, the terminal will have capacity to receive about 95% of the vessels on the market of cruise tourism.
The project fits into the strategy of Cape Verde to become regular stops on a route with cruise, one of the segments that ENAPOR is already working for the ports of Praia and Mindelo.
