New renewable energy project in Cape Verde ready to be opened

Photovoltaic power installed in Monte Trigo on the island of Santo Antao, is ready to be opened and can begin supplying electricity to residents 24 hours a day, according to news agency Cape Verde Inforpress.

That central part of the project Sesam-ER, was co-financed 75% by the European Commission, which consists of installing a solar power station in Monte Trigo with a power of 25 kW and a mini-hydro in the locality of the Tarrafal Monte Trigo, taking the fall for the source of the river bringing in a hydroelectric power plant of 45 kw.

With a duration of three years and started in 2010, the project includes preliminary studies, technical design and implementation with the construction of mini-hydro and photovoltaic.

The waters of Ponta Preta (APP), the Municipality of Porto Novo, the waters of Porto Novo (APN), Institute of Mechanical Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST-IDMEC) Lisbon, Portugal, Spain ERHTEC and TramaTecnoambiental and TransEnergie France are the project partners.
