Cape Verde’s economic growth accelerates in 4th quarter

Praia, Cape Verde, 20 Jan – Cape Verde’s rate of economic growth increased against in the fourth quarter of 2010, according to the archipelago’s National Statistics Institute, which cited the results of the latest Economic Climate Survey of Companies.

This diagnosis of the economic climate, calculated based on the opinions of business owners in the construction, retail, tourism, manufacturing and transport and auxiliary services sectors, saw a “positive result" for the confidence indicator against the same period of 2009.

In terms of the manufacturing sector the climate is “unfavourable” as the confidence indicator “developed negatively” but saw growth for business owners in the tourism, retail and construction sectors.

In the latter sector, despite a rise in the confidence indicator the outlook is still not a favourable one, INE said.
