Cape Verde participates in the first Olympics of Mathematics Lusofonia

Cape Verde will participate in the first Lusofonia Mathematics Olympics, which take place between 20 and 31 July at the University of Coimbra, Portugal. In the dispute will be 24 students from Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe and East Timor.

The first Olympiad of Mathematics Lusofonia are promoted by the Department of Mathematics at the University of Coimbra and the Portuguese Mathematics Society.

The challenge of the Olympics in speaking countries from the former Portuguese Minister of Science and Technology Mariano Gago, and aims to "stimulate the taste for mathematics in countries where the education level of the discipline still has many difficulties and discover talents and work with them to resolve problems, "says Joana Teles, responsible for organizing the competition and a professor in UC.

The reception teams is scheduled for 20 days, by 16 hours, the Department of Mathematics, University of Coimbra and international competition - performance of the tests - will be on 27 and 28. This will be preceded by one week an Olympic youth will participate in various activities - lectures, problem solving and strategy games - and experience the academic environment of Coimbra.
