Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations visit Cape Verde

The Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is in Cape Verde for a six-day official visit.

Carlos Lopez participates on Monday at the opening ceremony of the Congress Frame Cape Verdean Diaspora, held in Mindelo, 18-21 April.

Even in San Vicente, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations will be received by the President. In the capital, Lopes have working meetings with government officials to discuss the portfolio of Cape Verde cooperation with the institution he leads.

Originally from Guinea-Bissau, Carlos Lopes was appointed to the position of Executive Director of UNITAR to March 1, 2007, but still exercises the functions of acting director of the College of United Nations since November of that year.

Expert in strategic planning and development, the Guinea Bissau has contributed to research on development issues. He is the author of 22 books and has lectured at universities and academic institutions in Lisbon, Coimbra, Zurich, Uppsala, Mexico, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
