David Cicilline evokes Cape Verde in Congress

The deputy for the state of Rhode Island in Congress, David Cicilline, spoke during the legislative session of 8 Julio, the 36th Anniversary of the Independence of Cape Verde.

In his speech, underlined the challenges that Cicilline has won the African country and recalled the role of Amilcar Cabral in the process of liberation of the archipelago.

Congressman referred to the Cape Verdeans as "generous and committed workers" who are scattered all over the U.S., particularly in Rhode Island.

Cicilline also highlighted the contributions of the Cape Verdean community through art and other cultural events, as well as its commitment to the promotion of business and public office in American institutions.

In his speech, David Cicilline paid tribute to the late George Lima, a Cape Verdean who was part of the so-called Tuskegee Airmen, the name assigned to a unit formed by the first black pilots of the U.S. Air Force who fought during World War 2. Lee died on March 16 this year.
