Wind farm Praia, Cape Verde, will start in August
Praia, Cape Verde, 13 June - Wind Farm Mount St. Philip, in the capital Praia, with an installed capacity of 10 megawatts (MW), expected to start in August, announced Saturday the Director General of Energy of Cape Verde.
Lopes said the essential tools to assemble the park on Mount St. Philip, which represents an investment of 16 million already in the country, adding that the park will represent about 25 percent of total production in the country.
Lopes, who spoke on the sidelines of a visit to the port of Praia to receive 11 new wind turbines, said that the park will produce about 110 gigawatts (GW) of energy per year.
"The wind turbines will install about 10 megawatts of rated power in the city, which means a very great composition in terms of installed capacity," he said, noting that the project foresees the construction of similar parks in the islands of Sao Vicente (6 MW) , Sal (8 MW) and Boavista (2.4 MW).
The wind farm to be installed on the Beach is co-financed by the government of Cape Verde, Electra, Infraco, Finnfund, African Development Bank and European Investment Bank.
The cost of the overall project to be installed on the islands of Santiago, Sao Vicente, Sal and Boavista around 63 million and represent an installed capacity of 28 MW, which means a penetration of renewable energy in national electricity network of more than 25%.
