Praia, Cape Verde, 13 June - The introduction of games of chance in Cape Verde may mean a shift in demand in the archipelago as a tourist destination, said Thursday in Praia Minister of Tourism, Industry and Energy.
Humberto Brito who spoke at the presentation ceremony of the law governing games of chance in Cape Verde and establishes the General Inspectorate of Games (IGJ), said it was a moment of "great importance" because it can attract Cape Verde more investors and tourists.
"Over recent years there has been much demand on the part of entities interested in settling in Cape Verde to develop economic activities relating to gaming and gambling, but we needed a clear legal framework for it to be implemented in a transparent and with clear rules, "he said.
The law governing games of chance rules in relation to local areas, procedures for the installation of the rooms, who can compete and what are the obligations of utilities and regulates the crimes of the game, among other things.
Humberto Brito confirmed that there is already permission for the launch of tenders for licenses to operate games in Cape Verde.
The games of chance will be restricted to gaming halls in hotels included four or more stars or in casinos, but within the gaming areas.
The islands of Santiago, Sao Vicente, Sal, Boa Vista and Maio are areas of permanent fixtures and can also be created temporary zones, still unregulated.
The installation of game rooms is subject to public tender and limited liability companies can compete in Cape Verde and each licensee must pay the government a premium for the grant of between 20 million and 264 million escudos (between 181,000 and 2.39 million euros).
