Cape Verde takes experience Fisheries to Brussels
12 May, 2011 - Cape Verde is participating this Friday 13th in Brussels at a conference on the European Common Fisheries Policy. The Minister of Infrastructure and the Economy of the Sea, Veiga presents the experience of Cape Verde "in governance of the sector," focusing on Sea Cluster strategy that will be implemented.
The ruling, which followed on Wednesday, 11 towards Brussels, ensures that the spotlight will be the EU policy on sustainability of fisheries. The meeting with the participation of more than 15 countries, with which the European Union have signed fishing agreements. The work program includes a series of round tables, in particular on transparency and governance of the sector, scientific research and conservation and efficiency in supporting fisheries.
Is the EU fishing more than 400 tons of fish per year in the exclusive economic zones of countries with which we have partnership agreements. They receive in return for money from the sale of fish, which must be applied properly in the acquisition of equipment, management of resources, infra-structure sector, among other areas.
The city of Praia will use the meeting in Brussels to present their experience regarding "good governance" in the fisheries sector. "Cape Verde has to meet the good governance of the fisheries sector, highlighting the importance of the sea and fishing in the strategy for the Cluster of the Sea which will be implemented," says the Minister of Infrastructure and the Economy of the Sea.
Veiga notes that will also talk about the development of fisheries agreements concluded with EU Cape Verde since 1990 to date. This addition to the importance that the revenues collected under those agreements had on the public treasury.
