Five Portuguese companies will build social housing in Cape Verde
Five Portuguese companies, in partnership with many other Cape Verde, signed contracts for the construction of 452 dwellings in social areas in Cape Verde, under the project "Housing for All", funded by Portugal.
The signing took place yesterday in Praia and involves business lusas HFN (in partnership with Engeobra), Armando Cunha (Sogei), Engineering Couples (Tecnicil Construction), Monte Adriano (MTCV) and Louis Frazier SA (Luis Frazao, Ltd) . The five consortia are covered by credit line of EUR 200 million available from Portugal in 2009, during a visit to Cape Verde, the Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates, to implement the program "Housing for All", aimed at mitigating the housing deficit of about 82 000 fires.
The number, however, told Lusa Carlos Moura, president of Real Estate, Land and Habitat (HFI entity that manages the program), is already outdated and there is now, according to a study, a deficit of around 40 000 dwellings.
The five Portuguese companies, which hold 51% stake in each of the consortia will build the second phase of the program, 452 homes - 196 in the island of Fogo, Boavista at 170 and 86 in S. Nicholas, an amount estimated at 11.2 million - and have a completion period of 17 months.
Carlos Moura said that under the contracts are signed, there will be an amount to be paid to companies that will do the inspection of works, another consortium luso / Cape Verde.
"The funding for this phase have already been released, having been deposited amount of 20% of total construction in the account of the consortia," said Carlos Mora, pushing rumors that the economic and financial crisis in Portugal could jeopardize the program.

With the new route, TACV will offer two calls a week from Spain. It is well that the journey between Barcelona and Sal, the company already offers about a year, direct flights from Madrid.
The connection will be made to Barcelona with the Boeing B757, due to start in July. Mário Almeida said that the flagship company has virtually guaranteed the sale of the entire capacity of the apparatus, with the demand of tour operators.
