Cape Verde to receive parliamentary delegation from Denmark

Praia, Cape Verde, 8 March – A delegation of the Danish parliamentary commission for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries is due to arrive in Cape Verde Wednesday for a visit focused on cooperation in the fishing sector, Cape Verdean newspaper Inforpress reported.

Lead by the president of the parliamentary commission, René Bjørn Christensen, and made up of 15 people, including the Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, Henrik Høegh, the visit is part of an international exchange programme of the commission, which this year will focus on Cape Verde and Spain.

According to a statement from the Cape Verdean Foreign Affairs Ministry, the visit, which is due to take three days, is an opportunity for officials from both countries to analyse the current state of the fishing sector, as well as existing agreements in this area.

The delegation will have working meetings with representatives of the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Ministry for the Environment, Rural Development and Marine Resources. This will also be an opportunity for the two countries to analyse other cooperation possibilities, particularly, in the areas of the sea, tourism and renewable energy.

The last day of the mission will include the Danmark school ship passing through the port of Praia, with 70 young Angolan sailors on board, whoa re o a 12-week training course sponsored by Danish tow company Svitzer.
