New broadband wireless offerings in Cape Verde
Praia, Cape Verde, 6 May – The companies Digicel, T+ Telecomunicações, CVNet, SGPM and CVWiFi have won the public tender to award frequency usage rights for the provision of broadband wireless access (BWA) services, reports Cape Verde’s Inforpress news agency.
Tender coordinator Ana Lima said the companies had been notified of the result and that the National Communications Agency (ANAC) was now preparing a document on the frequency usage right, for distribution to each of the five companies.
The document indicates the frequency band, maximum period in which to start activity and the coverage area, in line with criteria previously set in the specifications.
BWA is a descriptive term for new broadband wireless technologies, among them Wimax (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access), a technology which allows networks to be installed with vary large coverage areas, thus reducing infrastructure costs.
Wimax technology will enable operators to offer new services in the national market, boosting competition and lowering broadband access costs, the ANAC website indicates.
