Businessmen Cape Verde wish to import fruit from Guinea-Bissau

Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, 2 Jun - Entrepreneurs in Cape Verde intend to start buying some agricultural products in Guinea-Bissau, Bissau said the president of the Western Chamber of Commerce, Manuel Monteiro, who is part of a mission of businessmen Cape Verdeans that country.

Manuel Monteiro mentioned the cases of mango, lemon, pineapple and orange fruits that "they are ruining in Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde that matter from other countries, particularly Latin America and Europe.

"We bought bananas from Italy, but actually comes from Latin America, when we could be buying this and other products that are damaged, here in Guinea-Bissau," argued Manuel Monteiro.

The official said the deal just did not advance due to "some constraints" that in recent times, he said, have been surmountable.

Manuel Monteiro highlighted problems such as double taxation, trade barriers, but more importantly, the lack of a ship that links the two countries as factors that have hindered the emergence of business deals between Guineans and Cape Verdeans.

The visit of business delegation from Cape Verde began Tuesday and ends Saturday, was held at the invitation of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Agriculture and Services (CCIAS) of Guinea-Bissau.
